The Naija in Salone WhatsApp group Saturday, 2nd December, organised a dinner for all Nigerians in Sierra Leone at the Nigerian High Commission in Freetown.
The meeting and dinner was geared towards familiarising and meeting Nigerians in Sierra Leone from all walks of life.
Chief convener, Dr. Ufuoma Festus Omo-Obi, said Naija in Salone is a WhatsApp group that was established in February 2017, adding that although it is a social media platform, it also serves as a professional forum that strikes a balance across structural and creative freedom, light and casual, with a vision to strengthen bonds amongst Nigerians in Sierra Leone.
‘’Our membership is made up of captains of industries, professors, business owners, engineers, medical doctors, and all walks of life, amongst others,” he said.
He said the group provides a platform where lots of Nigerians link up, interact and support each other as a family.
He revealed that during the August 14th mudslides and flood disaster, the Naija Salone group donated Le55 million and 100 bags of rice as their contribution to the emergency.
He encouraged Nigerians to promote unity of the country and its image in all their work and everyday life in Sierra Leone.
Speaking during the ceremony, President of the Yoruba Association, Omolola Oki, underscored the importance for Nigerians in Sierra Leone to meet and know one another.
He stated that the Yoruba Association in S/L was founded in 1889, adding that the history of the country cannot be told without mentioning the history of the Yoruba people in Sierra Leone.
He encouraged all Nigerians in Sierra Leone to be hardworking and desist from discussing politics.
President of Nigerians in the Diaspora (NIDO) Sierra Leone Chapter, Ernest Udeh, urged all Nigerians to come together and be themselves.
He said that NIDO Sierra Leone Chapter is part of NIDO Africa, which serves as the umbrella body of Nigerians all over Africa and Sierra Leone as a whole.
He thanked Nigerians in Sierra Leone for bringing together their compatriots as it is very important for networking.
