Newly accredited Nigeria High Commissioner to Sierra Leone has assured the Niger Delta Organisation of his presence at the Nigerian Business Awards night on December 9 at the plush Radisson Blu hotel.
Dr. Habiss Ibrahim Ugbada gave the assurance yesterday in a snap press conference at the commission’s head office on Umaru Yar’Adua Crescent, Hill Cut Junction in Freetown.
The new envoy, who has spent less than three months in the country, cautioned all Nigerians to replicate the ideas of the Niger Delta Organisation and respect the laws of Sierra Leone.
“I advise that you respect the laws of this land. Wherever you are respect the people around you, be friendly with them so that your absence would be felt. Avoid criminality of all nature. The little you have is your Zuma rock,” he warned.
The experienced diplomat advised Niger Deltans not to limit the awards to Nigerians, but to include Sierra Leoneans that are industrious as he re-assured them of his support and presence.
“Go ahead with the awards. You have my support. But don’t limit it to Nigerians alone. Look for people in this country you think are business minded and worthy to be recognised,” he said.
Earlier, Chairman Niger Delta Organisation, who also doubles as owner of Heritage Laundry Limited, David O. Abraham, said the concept of the awards would position their business interest in the public space.
He said God has blessed Nigerians much more than they were asking for, and that the Diasporans ought to do more like President Buhari is doing by concentrating their resources in one focus.
“We conceive the idea of Nigeria Business Award primarily to further develop the Nigeria social economic identity in the public space. Give a better sense of understanding to all participants in business community,” he said
He noted that at the end of the awards night, Nigerians living in the country would understand that someone was watching, thus inspiring them to perform better to win much more.
Abraham stated that the Nigeria in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO SL) would support the median edition of the awards, adding that newly appointed police and military chiefs, together with the Minister of Inter Affairs, have also been invited.
