Ghana legend, Abedi Ayew Pele, has cautioned the Black Stars not to get carried away by their overwhelming performance against Ethiopia in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying opener.
The former Black Stars captain, who watched coach James Kwesi Appiah’s side scored five goals at the Baba Yara Stadium to begin their campaign on a high, still believes the team should not get carried away.
“We have other matches to play in the qualifiers even though the countries we will face [Sierra Leone and Kenya] are not as strong as expected. For now, we do not have to jubilate so much because things go so fast in football,” Ayew was quoted by Goal.com.
Ghana faces the Harambee Stars of Kenya in March 2018, before hosting Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in September to complete the first round of the qualifiers.
The Black Stars are now leading Group F but only separated by goals as Sierra Leone, who beat Kenya 2-1 in Freetown also have three points.
