Former athletes and sports administrators, who mourned the loss of former Sierra Leone 200 and 400 Meters National Champion Alieu Kamara; alias Bigger.

The former standout athlete, who was popularly known for his imposing physical stature passed away early last week after a short battle against Liver Cancer.

Kamara’s death came as a shock to many who knew him and the current Sierra Leone Athletes international ambassador, Leslie Koroma, who is based in the United States of America lead the condolence messages: “My heart is heavy and still in shock over the death of a younger brother.

Haroun Korjie in United Kingdom said: “Am still in shock. This dude was with me in Freetown in December. I cannot believe he is gone forever. You should have let me hold your hands one more time and tell you how good a guy you were.”

Also, a friend and brother from London, Hassan Kamara alias –Nico, put it aptly saying “He was not supposed to die so young .What is going on in our country (Sierra Leone), too many young people are dying.”

Kamara, who was on his early 40’s until his death was also a US Citizen born in Sierra Leone. He survived by his wife, Shannon Kamara and very young kids.
