Ace Sierra Leonean actor, Desmond Finney, took home the Best Foreign Actor award at the just concluded Special Movie Awards held at the prestigious Coco Hotel resort in the Gambia last Friday (30 September, 2016).
The award ceremony was hosted by Affrinity Production in the Gambia to honour filmmakers in Africa, with guests coming from South Africa, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom.
Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Gambia, Sullay Daramy, who graced the event, said he was not surprised as he knew the excellent work Finney has been doing in the African film industry.
After receiving the award, Finney expressed appreciation to Affrinity Production, the African Movie industry and the leadership and people of the Gambia for the recognition.
He pledged to continue his quest to put his country and the African continent on the world stage in the realm of movies.
Two other Sierra Leoneans also received awards at the event: Mamud Jalloh of AYV television was recognized as Best Editor and Collins Archie Pierce’s movie “Ibu in Sierra Leone” won the best foreign movie category.
Over 24 awards were doled out to deserving Gambian filmmakers at this maiden edition of the Affrinity Production’s Special Movie Awards.
